***The open enrollment deadline to sign up to ObamaCare for this year was March 31, 2014 and it is now too late to sign up .***
If you missed that deadline and need insurance for the rest of the year, unfortunately you CAN NO LONGER get health insurance online through the ObamaCare website (healthcare.gov). Open enrollment will open back up in October 2014 but you can’t buy insurance and get any subsidies through the site until then.
Your only option is to find short term health insurance on your own that will tide you over until ObamaCare open enrollment starts up again. This is a shock to most people and a little known fact of the Affordable Care Act: most insurance companies are no longer selling regular health insurance during the months open enrollment is closed. You now need to search for short term insurance which is just temporary until ObamaCare opens up later in the year.
To find short term health insurance, start by contacting the private health care providers that do business in your state. An easy way to do this is by going to eHealthInsurance. They have all the major health insurers such as Aetna, Humana, BlueCross, Health Net, and others and you can compare all your different options quite easily right there at no extra charge. The also have ways for you to contact them with any questions by telephone, email, or online chat.
You can also contact each health care insurer individually on your own if you like. Just go to Google and search for “health care insurance” and a list of companies will come up. You may be able to apply online or by telephone but you will have to give each of them your relevant health information just to get a quote.
