* Rhode Island WILL create its own health insurance marketplace.
* Rhode Island WILL expand Medicaid starting in 2014.

Health Source RI

The new health care insurance marketplace for Rhode Island is called Health Source RI and it is now a live website you can go to. However, as of July 16, 2013 you will not find much information on the site other than their 3 month plan to get the word out about the exchange. Obviously, they are in the very beginning stages of setting up the marketplace.

Christy Ferguson is the director of HealthSourceRI and she said their will be 28 different health insurance plans available  to Rhode Island residents starting on October 1, 2013. The plans will all be for coverage for the 2014 calendar year.

Rhode Island Will Get Expanded Medicaid

Governor Lincoln Chafee has signed an executive order that will expand Medicaid in Rhode Island. The Supreme Court ruled that the expanded Medicaid provision in the Affordable Care Act was one that each state could individually to adopt or not. Rhode Island is one of the states that will be getting federal subsidies that will pay for the expansion for the years 2014 through 2016 and after that the state will have to take on a bigger role in its financing.
